On this page you will find a few pictures I took during an overnight trip with my wife to Piseco, NY. I used 38290 to fly us back-and-forth to the Piseco Airport (NY43). The distance from Rochester is about 150 nm.
Flying into Piseco is also a nice experience. The runway is 60 feet wide and 3000 feet long, but the winds are quite bizarre. In fact the 2 windsocks at the airport give very different information. I used runway 4 which has the approach over the lake with peaks going up to 3500 feet to the left of center line (the pattern altitude is 2700 feet). On Wednesday we were the only traffic at the airport.

The Irondequoit Inn is a 5 minute walk from the airport, and has breath taking views of the lake. The hospitality is fantastic, although things did not go as planned. We were the only guests and there was a serious heating problem. As a result, we were put in one of the 3 cottages that the Inn also owns. Very nice place for up to 4 people, which a nice kitchen, wood-burning stove, etc.

Due to electrical problems, there was no lunch at the Inn, and the manager drove us 10 miles to a nearby restaurant and picked us up an hour later. Dinner was also not served due to a Chamber of Commerce meeting, but the manager gave us his car and directions to some restaurants. We ate at the Melody Lodge with stunning views of the mountains and lakes at sunset. Breakfast was served at the Inn, and it was excellent. We spend a few hours sipping coffee in the porch watching the lake. You did not hear anything else but the sounds of birds, the wind, etc.

The flight home was beautiful. However, make sure you practice short-field
takeoffs before hand. Taking off from runway 4 you are surrounded by trees,
with plenty of high trees at the end of the runway. Also, there is quite
a dramatic shift in winds when you clear the top of the trees. In addition,
during the preflight I observed a few times a 180 degree shift in the direction
of the wind.
